In this project you will examine the culture of “work” critically. Most of you have either worked in the past or are currently working, and even more of you will work in the near future. For most of us, activities associated with work will occupy about one half of our adult waking hours (8 hours of work, 8 hours of leisure, 8 hours of sleep), so it is crucial that we fully understand the cultural assumptions prevalent in our particular work conditions. When we understand these critical assumptions, we can then make informed decisions about how to live our working lives. We have the choice of accommodating, resisting, or negotiating these cultural assumptions, and in doing so we open up the potential to change or expand our understanding of the assumptions that operate against or with our own beliefs regarding workplace conditions and relationships.
